This sculpture of a Lion and Serpent was created by the French sculptor of animals, an animalier, Antoine Louis Barye.
One of Barye’s most famous statues was the Lion and Serpent. He sculpted several varations of this very popular Sculpture. It is considered one of his best compositions. He modelled this lion and serpent in 1833 and it’s titled Lion au Serpent No3. The lion has his paw on the snake’s body. There are other models that show the lion raising his paw to hit the snake.
